100TH ANNIVERSARY
BUILDING ON A LEGACY OF FAITH
Strategic Ministry Priorities
2023
100 YEARS OF CATHOLIC MINISTRY
In 1923, a small handful of William & Mary students, along with Professor Carlos Castañeda founded the Gibbons Club - the first official Catholic organization at William & Mary. Within a decade of the Club's founding, a chapel had been constructed, and a permanent Catholic presence established. While the name has changed a few times over the past century, and the ministry methods have evolved to meet the needs of each generation, the mission has remained the same: to make God known on the campus of William & Mary.
In 2023, Catholic Campus Ministry at William & Mary will turn 100! As we approach this important milestone, our Staff, Leadership Council, and student leaders, have identified three key priorities, along with specific goals, which will position CCM to enter our second century of ministry stronger than ever: Building Community, Forming Disciples, and Expanding Capacity.
Building community
Our Tribe Catholic community is warm, inviting, and welcoming to all. However, our Catholic Student Center, the hub of our community life, doesn’t currently reflect this! The Center, located in the lower level of St. Bede Parish’s St. John XXIII Building, just steps from campus and adjacent to the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham, is in need of a significant remodel to meet the needs of our ministry and the students we serve.
FORMING Disciples
At the heart of the Church’s mission of evangelization is the call to discipleship – the daily invitation to follow Christ and be more conformed to him in every aspect of one’s life. This is the essence of Christ’s Great Commission to “go, therefore, and make disciples…”
Authentic discipleship encompasses the formation of the whole person, including intellectual formation, spiritual formation, and human formation. Over the next three years, we intend to add or expand programs to address these various aspects.
EXPANDING CAPACITY
Providing high quality, transformative ministry programs for students requires significant resources – not simply financial resources, but staffing, facilities, volunteer support, strategic partnerships, and more. Currently, our greatest resource shortage is in staff support. To support these various expansion goals, additional staffing is necessary to grow our capacity.
JOIN THE MISSION!
To accomplish these ambitious goals, we need the help of alumni, parents and family members of students and alumni, members of the Williamsburg Catholic community, and other friends and benefactors.
Please prayerfully consider pledging a sacrificial gift to help Catholic Campus Ministry at William & Mary enter our second century of ministry stronger than ever! Pledges may be made as one-time gifts, or spread over three years, and may be designated toward the program(s) you are most passionate about, specific sponsorship needs, or naming opportunities.
Gifts may be made by check, online via credit card or bank draft, or through gifts of appreciated stock or other securities. Online gifts and pledges are administered through FaithDirect, our ministry's online payment processor.
